Lee Davis (“Marlee”), also called “Peggy” by family members, has loved writing
since she was six years old. She began by writing poetry and stories, and for
many years continued to do so. Her church, her friends, and her family members
often called on her to write poems for special occasions. While raising her
children, she worked with the youth at church. During that time, she wrote
three plays, which earned enough money to buy a church bus. Eventually, Marlee
sold a poem to Warner Chappell to be used for greeting cards and church
bulletins. After that, her husband, Jerry, told her that if she could write
poems and stories, she could write songs. So Marlee tried her hand at song
lyrics. It wasn’t long before she hooked up with collaborators who put music to
her lyrics. Since then, she and some of her co-writers have had over a dozen
record cuts. Several of the songs remained in the top ten on charts in England,
Denmark, Sweden, Australia, and on the former website, known as“MP3”. In
addition, three love songs were included on a wedding album; and child singer,
Joey Pierson, sang a song by Marlee & Colleen Laylon on The Jenny Jones Show.
Her songs have also been used as “background” music in department stores.
Marlee resides in West Virginia with her husband and her “baby”, Buddy (a Yorkie).
She has three wonderful children, Gina, Kassi and Jeff; and seven grandchildren,
which are among her greatest blessings. Today, she enjoys writing for her
church, but commercial songwriting is still very much in the picture. Marlee,
now in her 50’s, is still working on new songs and has several projects going.
“It’s not about money”, she says, “ it’s about the joy of sharing songs which
God inspires me to write.” Feel free to browse around and email us with
